Why Gratitude?

The Power of Gratitude

Matt believed strongly in the transformative power of gratitude. Each of us possesses the capacity for gratitude no matter the storm, but we live in a world that doesn’t prioritize it. We don’t see a lot of gratitude in the news or on social media! With Gratitude Matt wants to step into that gap and bring stories of gratitude and hope to the forefront so that you can live life to the fullest.

Matt said gratitude was like a muscle: the more you use it, the stronger it gets. He created this acronym to paint a beautiful picture of what goes into gratitude:

  • Gift: Each of us is a gift from God. There isn’t another you! Use your gifts and talents, and appreciate them in others.
  • Response: We all face challenges in this world. How will you respond? Choose to get stronger every day.
  • Attitude: Pastor Chuck Swindoll famously said, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.” You have the power to choose your reaction, and in so doing, to redirect your life.
  • Tidal wave: Sometimes powerful storms threaten to overwhelm you. When they come, will you let them knock you over or will you ride the wave?
  • Intentional: Be intentional how you feed your mind, body, and soul. Choose wisely the media and content you take in. Be sure it is enriching you and bringing you peace.
  • Team: We are part of so many teams – family, work, school, friends – but the most important is God’s team. Take comfort in that, and work to build up the teams you are on!
  • Underdog: You may be fighting a big battle where you are the underdog. Celebrate the little wins. Never count yourself out. Remember, David beat Goliath.
  • Daily: Make gratitude and healthy living a daily practice. Begin with prayer. Eat well. When you lie down at night, think of three things you can be grateful for no matter how hard the day was.
  • Enthusiasm: Few people in life were more enthusiastic than Matt! You were given your life to live to the full, so go after it with purpose and enthusiasm. Rejoice in the small moments. Turn closer to God when you are held back by fear.

Over the course of his podcast, Matt interviewed dozens of people who became beacons of light in the world not because they set out to do so, but because they responded to life’s trials in faith and gratitude.

At the end of each podcast, Matt always reminded his listeners to do three things:

  1. Find something you are grateful for every day, no matter how powerful the storm is.
  2. Be truly present with those you are with.
  3. Pay attention to how you are feeding your mind, body, and soul.

We believe that by doing those three things every day, we can spark a movement of gratitude and make the world around us a little bit better. Thank you for joining us on this journey!

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations."
