I am amazed at how quickly things are moving today. Just one week ago I was mildly concerned about of the effects the coronavirus could and would have on us. Today, I am more broadly concerned. This virus is impacting every household and every business.
That said, we have an opportunity to influence how others respond to this by our own reactions. Do you fundamentally believe that our community, country and world can recover from this and become stronger through this experience?
Let me give you some historical reference points to think about.
- 911- Sept 11, 2001
- 1987 Black Monday
- Global Financial Crisis 2007 and 2008
- Technology Bust 2000
- The Great Depression of 1929
Everyone that lived through these experiences grew stronger as a result of these horrific events. However, while they were in it, things got scary. We persevered through these situations with great leadership, personal resilience and a strong faith.
Covid-19 will be written about in history books. We have an opportunity to write the ending today. Do we panic and make everyone around us more fearful or do we practice faith and create a calming space for others? The outcome will be determined by our reaction. If we react with faith, history tells us our Heavenly Father will protect us as He always has. Have faith in Him.
I recognize that many are being asked to do things they have never done before. For example, parents are being asked to home school their children. Are you grateful for the opportunity to lead your child’s learning experience or are you dreading it? Your attitude and reaction to this situation will determine your child’s memory of this unique opportunity.
During this “Global Pandemic” I challenge you to LOVE each other more. With Love there will be more empathy and with more empathy there will be more unity. With unity we get stronger. I have 100% faith we will be more resilient through this experience.
You will continue to hear statistics that are alarming. While the statistics change, be sure to practice healthy choices yourself. Social distancing is a safe choice. It goes without saying wash your hands often. When washing your hands wash your thumb. Most people neglect their thumb. Every time you wash your hands think of the three things you are grateful for that day.
Keep working at what I try to do every day:
- Find something you are Grateful for
- Be truly Present for those you are with
- Ask yourself what you are feeding your mind, body and spirit?
