Just a couple of days after my interview on the “Failing Forward” Podcast, I read the following passage in Sarah Young’s, “Jesus Calling”; “It is through problems and failure, weakness and neediness that you learn to rely on Me.”
The whole premise of Sarah Brown’s “Failing Forward” podcast is how one can learn from life’s difficulties and obstacles. You may recall from the podcast or in previous blogs, I try and work on three things each day. The three things are finding something I am grateful for, being present to those I am with and to work on what I am feeding myself. I am in no way perfect in these areas. In fact, I am very imperfect. What I do each day is try to I improve in each area. I know the stronger I am physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally, the more responsive my body will be to the treatments I am receiving.
This reading reminded me that I sometimes, overlook what I am eating, or I don’t take the time to meditate or pray. In other words, I do fail, but I start each day with the willingness and intention to take care of myself in all the ways I discussed in the podcast. There is no perfect formula. However, there is one constant; that none of this is possible without God’s grace. Jesus Calling reads “This is not a path of continual success but of multiple failures. However, each failure is followed by a growth spurt, nourished by increased reliance on Me.”
Beyond the guidance of our Heavenly Father, I have an amazing support system. It starts with Mary and her faith in God and in me. Also, the last 12 months has reminded me how important my family and friends are in this process. My family in Cincinnati and my family in Buffalo have been extremely supportive. Because of our moves from Michigan to Chicago and to Buffalo, we have had to say goodbye to some amazing friends. Through this process, I am grateful that I have been able to re-connect with so many people. The love and support from dear friends and family from near and far continues to inspire me daily.
So please remember, keep working at what I try to do every day and you will find yourself “Failing Forward”:
- Find something you are Grateful for
- Be truly Present for those you are with
- Ask yourself what you are feeding your mind, body and spirit?
