Grateful for all caregivers!

I was recently introduced to the John O’Leary story.  If you are not familiar with John O’Leary, you are going to want to acquaint yourself with his story. As a nine-year-old, John was in a fire explosion that left his body 100% burned.  As you learn more about John you will truly be inspired.  While in the hospital, he developed a close friendship with Hall of Famer, Jack Buck.  Jack inspired John to fight and get well.

John’s parents Susan and Denny O’Leary wrote the book “Overwhelming Odds.”  The book captures how faith, hope, prayer and community played a role in John’s recovery.  The odds of John living were stacked against him. Today John is living inspired by sharing his story internationally.  I was moved to hear John speak of his parents.  Recently on his podcast John had Joe and Kim Koenig as guest.  Joe is a cancer survivor himself.  Joe and Kim share how their faith is stronger than ever post diagnosis. They had a remarkable foundation that enabled them to tackle this hurdle with faith.

There is a correlation between John’s parents and Kim Koenig (Joe’s wife and caregiver).  During their challenge, they leaned into their faith and let God do the heavy lifting.  Today I am so grateful Mary tackles our challenge with unwavering faith much like John’s parents and Kim Koenig.  As a cancer patient I know the hardest job can often be that of the caregivers.  We as patients know how we feel each day.  Caregivers can only see it and anticipate the next steps.  Mary flew into Boston on a 6am flight today to be at my side during treatment.  As I held her hand today, I thought of my entire support system.  Mary is certainly at the center of the support system but it extends her. My support system includes our families, friends, co-workers and the medical team.  We are so blessed to have so many that are in our corner.

Please look at John O’Leary’s website and listen to the Podcast with Joe and Kim Koenig.  You will be inspired to live on fire like John and Joe do.

Keep trying what I work on each day:

  1. Find something you are Grateful for today

2. Be truly Present for those you are with and love

3. Ask yourself what you are feeding your mind, body and spirit?

Live inspired at God speed!
